Modern vehicles are getting smarter and more connected than ever, as we embrace smart transportation and mobility in our nation. Keyless entry systems, which improve user experience and convenience, are already prevalent. We can now use a digital key, smartphone app, or smart card to gain entry to a car and to start its engine. However, threats and attack vectors have also been dramatically increased. The police, car makers, and the insurance industry are playing catch-up as keyless car theft techniques evolve and adapt quickly to modern cars. Recent studies have shown that keyless car thefts are on the rise. In this talk, we will present details on recent hacks against keyless entry systems. Furthermore, we will talk about potential implications of such threats against the Singapore automotive landscape.
