Geopolitics and the Weaponisation of Critical Infrastructure
Governments and businesses face a geopolitical landscape that has rarely been more complex. Within it, the tech sector sits at an intricate interplay of heightened tensions, where technology influences geopolitics and vice versa. Malicious activities by state and non-state actors in cyberspace pose an ongoing threat to global peace, stability and security. With technical capabilities advancing at pace, enabled by hyperscale compute, data and AI, cyber is an attractive domain for those looking to cause disruption or harm. And increasingly, threat actors are interconnected by dark markets and aligned incentives. The threat is most acute for CNI, where cyber attacks can cause harm to society, disrupt global supply chains and undermine national security. In the UK, a new Cyber Security and Resilience Bill will aim to mitigate the threat, but will it be enough? This session provides insights into the threat facing CNI (with examples) and how nations can build a cyber resilient foundation.
